Well the game went very well, even though my blind structue got tossed almost immediately.
We started at 10/20, and when I said to go to 20/40 everyone voted to use 25/50 instead, because they were too lazy to count the $5 chips any more.
So we just kept doubling the blinds every half hour from there, got to 200/400 after 2.5 hours of play and the tornament ended there.
Everyone enjoyed themselves, I made it to second on pure luck. After getting crippled in the middle of the game I folded every hand I had preflop unless I was commited to pushing with it. There were 5 people left out of 6 when I took my big hit and I lasted to 2nd.
First hand of heads up I was in the big blind and was raised $400, I had pocket threes and pushed (at this point I was about 1/3 the stack of the chip leader) He almost folded but eventually called. Ace/Nine, caught his nine first thing and we were done. Good fun though, even for low stakes ($15 buy-in)
Glad to hear it worked out well! I'm not a fan of doubling blinds - seems too accelerated for my liking. But if you like it, and the group likes it, and everyone has fun, then go for it! Just make sure that the blinds aren't dictating the action TOO much - otherwise luck takes over.
Ya I didn't want to double the blinds either, but everyone else was in favor of and it and it worked well for the most part. No one was forced in by the blinds, and I was the only person who was getting hurt by the blinds after I got crippled. Stayed alive though.
Going to try to get them to lower the blinds next time so the game goes a little longer.
Believe me, I tried that. After we did 50/100 I said 75/150 but everyone said just double it so we ended up with 100/200.
I am sort of surprised that with only 6 people and the blinds going up so high so quick compared to our starting stacks (1500) that we got 2.5 hours out of it. And it would have gone longer had I not shoved all in on the first heads up hand and gotten called
