I am thinking about starting at the 5/10 level but having the blinds go up evry 15/20 minutes. If I start at 10/20 or 15/30 I would do them every half hour. Should work out to be the same either way

If you post your full blind schedule, your time inbetween blind levels, the number of players you expect, and your starting chips per player (got that already - $1,500), I can give you a good estimate of how long your tourney may last.

When you go to color up those chips are you going to use a chip race? Or just give everyone the next colored chip even if they only have one?(Meaning, Jimmy has 5*$5 so you give him a $25, and Johnny has 1*$5 and you give him one as well?)

Oh and I also set a timer for the blinds! It helps a great deal!! Make sure you have your blind levels posted so everyone can see them, oh and I start the clock for the next round at the end of the last hand in a blind level. These are just some thoughts....Good Luck!!

For this estimate I assumed 20 minutes blinds throughout (I didn't add any time in for colorups). The game would come to probable end somewhere between level 9 & 10 and last between 2 hours 40 min. and 3 hours 20 min. but could definitely be shorter if players have big confrontations.

When I color up it won't be a chip race, just doing the normal 5 x $5 = $25 chip.

Thanks for the help guys, this game should be exactly what I want. I was looking for something around 3 hours with a relaxed setting, looks like this should be pretty close to it.

Devils Advocate here: What if one guy has only one $5 chip?

For colouring up our $25 chips, we start out with 12 each, so it'll end up being an even number overall to go to $100 chips. It's usually just two people out of the group ending up with an odd number, so a lot of the time we'll do a coin flip (one night I did rock/paper/scissors with the other guy for it, it was amusing) if they have two each Or the guy with just one chip will often just toss it over to the guy with 3. It's all in good fun anyway, and at that point we generally aren't concerned about the difference one $100 chip would make.

I know exactly what your saying, but some guys get picky about that sort of stuff.....I just color every one up so all the lower chips are off the table and if a guy says something I usually remind him of what the buy in was ($10-25) and if it was that big of deal I would give him his money back. Then politely remind him that he will never be back again. That usually does the job.
