| Reno trip report Went to Reno for a job interview, I was able to squeeze in a little poker. I stayed at the Sands one of the older properties downtown. The casino really shows its age but my hotel room was clean and quite large if a bit outdated. >> The Sands poker “room” is 3 tables on the casino floor surrounded by a low wall. I never saw more than one table in play and most of the time no one was playing. They have two daily tournaments for $25 but the one time I could play only 4 people signed up, so it was cancelled. I never played in this room. >> The Eldorado has a real poker room just off the casino floor with 11 poker tables. All the tables were in good shape with comfy roller chairs and plenty of cushions to add if you’d like. Cards were shuffled by hand. There were never less than 3 tables going the 2 times I went. (Tuesday evening, and Thursday afternoon) They had 3-6 limit (full kill)(blinds were 1-2 so you could see a limped flop for just $2) and 1-2 NL running. Stud and lace w:st="on">Omahalace> were offered (supposedly got played sometimes on the weekends, but never while I was there.) I played 1-2 NL Tuesday, and 3-6 Thursday. The rake was higher than some of the other rooms advertised. The 3-6 game was 10% $4 max with another $1 taken for the jackpot. Not sure what the NL got capped at. Dealers were mostly competent, half were friendly half were grumpy. Comps were sad ($7.00 max / day) at $1.00 per hr.
I believe all the players except me were regulars at both my tables. >> The play both times was very tight. The NL game almost never went to showdown, the limit game nearly every pot was limped into by 5 or so players, bets would elicit calls, a raise would get respect and lots of folds, but normally at least one person would look you up so bluffing didn’t really work. >> The other room I got to play in was Harrah’s. They have a 7 table semi-enclosed room with the WSOP logo scattered around the room. Tables had auto-shufflers, chairs were on the cheap side. All the dealers (but one) seemed to regret the path in life that led them here. I went there Wednesday night they had 2 tables running a 1-2 NL game and a 3-6 (no kill) game. I played 3-6, again a very tight table with only myself and one other player not regulars. >> I looked to play at several other rooms downtown but they were all empty. Cal-Neva has a real room on the 3rd floor of the casino. Fitzgeralds had 3 tables sitting among the table games. >> I was card dead my whole trip so I spent the 3 days folding lots of hands. It kept my loses to a minimum but it sure didn’t make for a fun time. >> Drink service was in general fairly slow but you could order any drink you wanted, and they had a good selection of beers to choose from. >>
