Poker at Mohegan Sun:
Mohegan Sun currently has no live poker tables. Instead, they offer electronic PokerPro tables (
http://www.playpokerpro.com/). It's like online poker, except you see everyone at the table face to face. Everyone has their own electronic touch screen that shows you your hole cards and has your betting options.
To play on these electronic tables, players must:
1. Obtain a Player's card from one of the casino signup booths
2. Go to the cashier's window near the Seasons Buffet and deposit money on the player's card
3. Go see the brush/pit boss managing the Poker Pro tables
They only have about 8 tables available, however most players go to Foxwoods for poker action. For my most recent trip on July 4, I noted that they were running 3/6 limit, 1/2 NL, and $80 (65 + 15) SnG tournaments.
They offer the following limits:
* Hold'em (Limit and No-Limit), and Omaha (Hi and Hi/Lo Split
* $3/$6, $4/$8, $5/$10 Limit Games
* $1/$2 and $2/$5 No Limit Games
In addition, they have the following SnG limits:
$60 Buy-In
($50.00+$10.00)
$80 Buy-In
($65.00+$15.00)
$100 Buy-In
($85.00+$15.00)
$120 Buy-In
($100.00+$20.00)
$230 Buy-In
($200.00+$30.00)
Payout is %50/30/20 w/ 10 players per table. Players start w/ 3000, blinds go up every 15 minutes (7 minutes for turbo tournaments). Play tends to go reasonably quick since everything is done by computer. Betting probably takes a bit longer than with regular chips, but obviously shuffling/dealing/pot management goes a lot faster. Players have a timer that allows a little more than a minute per decision.
25/50
50/100
100/200
200/400 + 25
etc.
Opponents at my table seemed to understand the mechanics of poker, but made very common "beginner" errors.
1. Limping and calling raises with garbage hands
2. Offering good pot/implied odds with small bets
3. Limping when blinds are high
4. Not folding underpairs to the board
Players also tended to bet the flop w/ top pair, any kicker even if the preflop raiser acts behind them.
Example #1:
Few players limp at 25/50, button makes it 150, most players call.
Flop is K J x. MP leads into the preflop raiser, button smooth-calls, everyone else folds.
Turn J.
MP checks, Button bets 1/2 pot. MP wonders if button has a J, shows K4 and mucks. Button shows KK.
Example #2: blinds 25/50
UTG limps AK, 3 other limpers, tight MP makes it 200 to go, 3 players to the flop.
Ks 7d 2s
UTG leads for 300. 1 fold, MP calls.
turn blank
UTG leads for 600, MP calls
river spade.
UTG checks, MP pushes, UTG calls and wonders why the MP donkey called down with As Js.
I also got to observe this weird hand:
HJ mini raises to 400 at 100/200 blinds. I fold, button calls, SB folds, BB mini-reraises to 600, 2 calls, 3 players to the flop.
Flop 8 8 4
BB leads for 600, HJ calls, button calls.
Turn A
BB checks, HJ thinks and checks, button bets 600
BB calls, HJ pushes all-in, button folds
BB wonders "You have an ace!?" and calls with JJ -- HJ rolls over 86o and stacks him.
=====================================================
I didn't play many hands at the beginning, and picked up a very tight image by the time we got to 50/100.
Did manage a nice little move from the SB:
CO limps in, button folds, I raise from the SB w/ 77, tight BB folds, CO calls.
Flop is T99 and my cbet for 400 takes it down.
However, I got no action from my AK at 100/200 (3xbb raise, no takers) and J8s (BB special) OESFD.
Went out 6th pushing QQ after 1 limper at 200/400+25 (3k stack) and getting called by TT (tight player to my left). She flops the case T (someone folded JT) and I'm out.
