Chips: 9,139 | | | WSOP trip report - jldecarlo Back late last night from LV with 9 guys to play in the weekend NLHE events at the WSOP. Short version: I lasted the shortest time of any of us, but nobody cashed.
Long version:
$1500 NLHE. You really start out pretty short with T3000 in chips and 25/50 blinds. I started out very tight, raised a few hands in the first 30 min and collected the blinds. 30 min in, I'm about even.
On hour later, I haven't played another hand. I clearly have an image as the table nit. Three seats to my left is a player who was moved to our table abour 45 min ago. He is playing lots of hands. He's been all-in twice, once he doubled up to about a starting stack and once everybody folded. Right now, I have about 2300 and have him covered by about 200 chips.
I'm in the small blind with blinds of 50/100. Loose guy open limps. There are four callers to me. I have KQs, and bump it to 500. Loose guy calls, everybody else folds. 1500 in the pot.
The flop is QJ9 rainbow, none of my suit. I have top pair, second kicker and a gutshot. I bet 500. He goes all-in for my 500 plus 1100 more. 3600 in the pot, 1100 for me to call and I have 1300 left. I eventually call, he shows AQ and it holds up. I have 200 left and I'm out two hands later.
My basic post-mortum analysis is that I made a reasonable cash game play in a tournament and it cost me. All-in on the flop might have helped too.
Anyway, then I went to the cash tables and won a good chunk of my buy-in back. I had a blast, and will probably go back next year. I may just play cash games and one of the $500-1000 deep stack tourneys at the Venetian or Caesar's and skip the WSOP next time.

I wonder how Trev, Button Potato and any of the others are doing. |

Chips: 58 | | | Re: WSOP trip report - jldecarlo I didn't realise that those tournament structures were so short stacked, wow! Sounds like your cash game plan or different (non WSOP) tournaments would be a great idea next time. I'd go for that, if I could say I'd already played in a WSOP game...
thanks for the report |

One thing to think about.....don't give up on the WSOP tourneys so quick....yeah, the stacks may be a little short but at least the levels are 1 hour in the prelim events (at least they used to be, I assume nothing has changed). It's still the WSOP, making a final table would be the thrill of a lifetime, wouldn't it? And enough amatuers/rookies FT every year that it has to be someone......why not you? |
