I am thinking about going to Macau as I am on vacation in Southeast Asia. I believe that poker isn't too popular in Asia, except for the APT. Do you guys know any casinos in Macau that has cash games or tournaments?
Macau is a littleral mini vegas in Asia.
They have a few big tournaments that go through there
each year. Usually the APT and APPT. They always get
big turnouts, so Im guessing that there should be some poker
to be found there. Ive never been, so I cant speak for the best
ones to go to for poker. Manilla is also getting to be quite big
with Casinos and Poker is taking off. I believe Seoul also has
two card rooms with poker now.
Poker is currently spread in both the Grand Waldo and the Grand Lisboa (not to be confused with the older original "Lisboa" next door). The Grand Waldo's room is run by PokerStars. While I didn't actually play there, I did visit the casino. It's a bit out of the way at the moment and does not compare to the newer casinos in Macau.
I played everyday at the Grand Lisboa and found the games unbelievably soft (I did just fly in from Vegas and L.A so I was comparing play to rooms like the Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian and the Commerce).
Play is very, very loose and super aggressive (one guy on one of my tables raised every hand pre-flop for an hour). If you flop the nuts you will get at least two callers hoping to suck out. This is great if your hand holds up, but expect to get run down a few times.
I played mostly $20-$40 at the Grand Lisboa - buy in for $2000HK (1 US$ = approx 7.4 Hk$ so the game is roughly $3-$6 US) and to give you an idea of the play and the players I won and lost a number of pots that were over 15k HK ($2000.00 US). I honestly think that while they are learning the game there, there is plenty of money to be made in Macau at the moment. Grand Lisboa also spread 50-100 and I think there was a list for 100-200 as well.
There is also a large thread on 2+2 about poker in Macau and the two rooms I have mentioned. It is worth a read if you are going to play.
In relation to the chips they sell from the tray at the table and they use the following chips in the 20-40 game: a few cheap plastic (6gm) $5's and $10's, as well as $25's $100's, $500's and $1000's. they will chip you up at the table when your stack becomes too big to $5000 chips also. You have to walk to the cage to cash in so if you wanted to keep any chips you can just walk out the door no problem.
I went to about 10 casinos and the quality of chip varied from really terrible to a few ok plastic chips at the MGM Grand. I did notice some nice looking jetons on the baccarat tables in some places if you are into those.
Anyone else with any experiences to share playing at the Grand Waldo or the Grand Lisboa? i assume it's just those two casinos still that are currently spreading hold'em. I will be heading there in about a week, so all advice is welcome.
I know the Wynn is looking at opening a poker room but I'm not sure if it will be ready in time for your visit. So I think it is still just the two already mentioned.
I hear that Grand Lisboad just opened a poker room as opposed to converted baccarrat tables in the middle of the room. Check it out and give us a trip report!!
I go to Macau fairly often as it is not far from me. I am thinking of taking my wife there next weekend as she likes poker alot. I will probably just go to the Grand Waldo though, let us know which place you reckon is better.

I will probably be there during the week next week. I actually arrive in Hong Kong on Sunday, so it might take me a day or two to get out to Macau.
I'll definitely try to check both out and try my best to write up a trip report.
