Re: Advice on nice low-/mid stakes casino in Vegas please?

I just got back from staying at the MGM and highly recommend their card room. Lots of tables, lots of action and short waits to get a seat.

It's funny, but it's also not...
I actually lost some big pots that way. You would think that a board with straight draws, flush draws, alot of high cards and some pro (me) betting like crazy would scare these people off. But NOOO, they haven't read Sklansky, so they hang on to their small pocket pair as if they had a straight flush... discusting!
Although I know you shouldn't bluff idiots but I guess I'm the idiot in those cases right... I never learn.

Back to my original question:
After a couple of days of flu/fever shi*t I enjoyed Vegas really much, don't know if it was the poker, free drinks, ladies, the shopping or the shooting range! The dollar is a real bargain for us non-US citizens.

I tried the MGM, that was ok. Pretty good atmosphere, nice people but sort of thrown out in the middle of people walking through the casino, at least that was my feeling.

Tried Palms. A bit too off from the Strip. Smokey, dirty, don't like the 1-3 blinds. I like the Palms ceramic chips but I don't like that they mix them with clays. Alot of regulars and fish, although my feeling was that the regulars (young kids with iPods) play like fish sometimes!

Finally I played at the Venetian and I loved that place. A large selection of tables, clean new tables, really nice Paulson chips, nice dealers (although not everyone was skilled), nice staff. I had the best two nights there with alot of nice people and we had some really good laughs at the tables.

All and all a really nice experience and I look forward to my next trip to Vegas and hopefully my family will join me...

Cheers//D

The Venetian and Caesar's Palace are probably your best bets, for the stakes you mentioned. I was there two weeks ago, and got a lot of action on the 1-2 NL tables at the MGM. The poker room is kind of thrown into the middle of the casino, but you get a lot of people leaving the surrounding bars to play cards. The only better than a fish, is a drunk fish.

I can vouch for MGM...I was there a couple years ago and it was packed with fish. Check out a long read here if you want:

It isn't the nicest room but it does attract the fish.

I'm staying at Planet Hollywood this weekend...hopefully it is good.

That is so sick..... The dollar is becoming like what Canda
play money used to be. Now everyone is kicking our ass in the
economy. SOOOOO sad.

Re: Advice on nice low-/mid stakes casino in Vegas please?

Im staying at Planet Hollywood for my one day layover in vegas
before I go home, then come back for the 5 day long birthday trip.

Let me know how it goes. From looking around here, Im looking at
maybe Caesars / Bellagio for bigger tournaments, and the Venetian,
Wynn, not sure what else for cash games. I like the idea of NL drunk
fish shoot though.

For what it's worth, Planet Hollywood has a pretty nice room, although it's small. Comfy chairs, nice tables, decent dealers, etc. A nice mix of fish and decent players. HQ played there for a few hours last August and we had a good time. I love the look of the room, but then, I love the look of that whole place. I miss Aladdin, but the upscale modern look of Planet Hollywood is consoling to me.
