Chips: 1,052 | | | Excalibur card room Have you played there? I've heard it's one of the softest of Las Vegas card rooms and also one of the strangest as far as buy-in rules. Something about allowing you to buy-in another full amount as soon as your stack is reduced by even a single chip. Is this for real?
What do you know about this card room and would you recommend playing there?
What kind of games are spread there? LImits? Anything at all about it. Thanks.

Chips: 5,690 | | | Re: Excalibur card room It has been quite a while since I played there, but here's the story from when I did... I think it was probably in 2004&2005... I forget, but it was twice, and around that time.
I didn't play the NL, but I think they had a single 1-2 table both times I was there. The more popular games were the spread limit; they didn't have regular limit games. The spread limit games were 1-3 and 2-6. I didn't play the 1-3, just the 2-6; which was extremely soft. Lots of 50+ old men, oddly. There is a jackpot drop as well as the regular drop, and part (most?) of the jackpot drop goes towards the wheel. There's a big wheel that you get to spin if you get AA cracked, or a high hand (quads or better?). The minimum prize is about $30, so a lot of regulars were playing AA very passively - either they win the pot, or they get to spin, either way it's a win-win (with the bigger potential wins on the wheel). Ummm... I'm sure there is stuff I'm forgetting, let me know if you have any questions.

Kyle, thanks for the info on sheaj's recent trip. I sent him a note asking that he check into this thread.
Cheers.

Chips: 6,624 | | | Re: Excalibur card room I played at Excalibur a couple times, and it was just ok. Like every review said, the talent there is downright horrible. They only had 2/4 and 2/6 spread limit and 1/2 NL when I was there. The cool thing was the wheel you spin if you lose with pocket aces or if you get quads or better. You can win up to about $300. This helps people to stop complaining when they lose with AA .
I played at the 2/4 limit table, because it was late on the first night and all they had other than 2/4 was this and 1/2 NL and I wasn't feeling NL yet. My table consisted of 2 crazy Canadian guys that played anything, one would straddle and call through the turn without looking, a Brazillion woman who had never played, 2 middle aged dads and 1 real player (other than myself) who had like $350 in front of him. Then a couple people came and went losing their $.
The tables and chips were not very good IMO, but the game is wicked soft. It really is a great place to get your feet wet. I wish I would have played the 1/2 NL, Im sure I would have mopped the floor with those people.
I also played a tournament there. The setup was pretty stupid. T300 with 15 min blinds. Also just stupid competition since the buy in was so cheap. A lot of people just playing to see what it is like. My uncle finished on the bubble and cashed in the 2 tournaments he played there. |

Chips: 1,052 | | | Re: Excalibur card room I played at the Excalibur for the first time last week and it was a good experience. I lasted about five hours and had good results. The dealers were all very professional, keeping the action flowing and making correct rulings when required. I was impressed. The action was excellent at the $1/2 no limit cash game. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough interest in a $2/5 nl game to get it off the ground. We tried though. They weren't setup for comps in connection with the Excalibur player's club card, but were cool about giving food vouchers when asked. Overall, I was pretty impressed.
