Poker Lessons?
a few questions actually...
a) Just wondering if anyone has taken any classes or lessons for NLHE (either tournament or cash game play) which has greatly improved your play ... and
b) if so, where from?
I saw at one point, WPT, I think, was offering up something with the pros. It was a weekend long session I believe (not sure of the price) which ran at Foxwoods, AC, and Vegas.
Basically, I am stuck in my game. I know what I am doing wrong, and not 100% to get around it. I am still winning here and there, but not enough to feel comfortable. A few of the regulars I play with have me pegged, and that bothers me.
I don't play online, as I don't enjoy it. Just trying to steer my game in a new direction.
Thanks
Mark

Re: Poker Lessons?
If you already know what you're doing wrong, shouldn't be too hard to fix it..?

Re: Poker Lessons?
Not necessarily...
For example, if one isn't 100% sure of the pot odds... or implied odds.. or any math really ...
When you flop an open ended straight .. do you pop it, check it, etc...
When 3 to a flush come and you flop a straight. You bet, get reraised...
I know alot depends on the players more so than the cards, but I need something to get my game to that next level.
Forgot to mention, I have read several books, but I have a hard time applying some of the concepts. Most of the books assume you are playing with quality players. While I do play with some good players, I also play with some doosies.
Some books seem to say raise or fold. Some say fold unless you have a monster, etc...
Granted, I think I suffer from some ADD too, and I am sure that doesn't help me in the long run. I have a memory like a machine though, and rarely forget hand histories and such, which helps.

I agree. I don't think going to a "how to" seminar is going help your game. Can you give some examples of what you think you are doing wrong? Maybe some people here can give some tips as to how you can improve.

have you read this one? i haven't in a couple years, but i remember finding the concepts pretty helpful for loose home games.

I have the ADD issue as well but I have terrible (in a Charles Barkley voice" short term memory. I will forget the details of a hand unless I do something to remember it, but I'll remember it exactly years later.
I sent you a PM on this subject as well

Yeah.. it is a gift. I can describe ... in detail... the house I lived in from 1973-1976.. I was almost 3 when we moved out.
I remember most of my childhood friends phone numbers to this day..
I never forgot how to get somewhere I have been when I drive it.
I can remember where I have purchased every article of clothing I own.
etc...
I had a 3.5 High school GPA.. NEVER once took a book home to read it, NEVER ONCE did homework. I remembered what happened in discussions and almost always Aced the tests. (and I never cheated) -- on a side note, I read my first real book, cover to cover, after my 1st full year of college. (Called "The Umpire Strikes Back" by Ron Lucciano -- about the stories and career of a long time MLB umpire)
I usually remember my cards, the flop (suit not included most of the time, unless they are relevant), and some of the action of most hands played. Of course, there are soooo many hands in one night, it is tought to remember EVERY one.
sorry for the ramblings

Re: Poker Lessons?
i'm reading Professional No Limit Hold Em after having read most of Small Stakes No Limit HoldEm by Miller, Mehta and Flynn.
they're a bit tough to digest for a moderate noob like me, but the small stakes book definitely gives you new insight into playing against different types of players.
