Just like the thread title says, wondering what you typically do - buy in right away by paying the blind or do you wait and watch the action first until the BB gets to you?

It depends, but most of the time I wait for the big blind to come around. - If I know the players and I sit down no further than 1-2 behind the button, I might post.
- If I don't know the players, I'll wait for the BB even if it means waiting for nearly a full orbit.
- I always wait in a short-handed game.

I feel like waiting typically serves me well as it slows down my own itch to get involved in play and forces me to sit, wait and hopefully ponder the table a bit. Quote:

Most of the time I choose to wait and check out the competition but it does depend on my mood sometimes.
Unless the BB is going to hit me in a hand or two I'll post if I'm in an overly anxious mood to play  .

Yeah I agree with Jamby, I wait to calm the nerves and to watch how people play. Sometimes I wait for a whole round to go around until I sit and play. Plus I don't like it when at cash games someone sits between me and the fellow that just gets knocked out and there is either 2 BB or 2 SB. I wouldn't want to do that to other people.

I prefer to wait but the dealers will often deal me in even though I just sat down (without asking). Last time this happened, no one prompted me to post, but I did any way, and got dealt 4-6. But the next hand I had a pocket pair that tripped up, so I was glad I didn't wait.

Online I never post. LIve I almost always do, unless the blinds are coming in a hand or two. I know it's not optimal to do so, but I want to look like a fish and not a TAG.
