$40 NL in California
I've heard that the NL games in California are $40 min/max buyin with 1/2 blinds. Can anyone comment on how this game plays?

What you heard must have been casino specific.

I thought most of the bigger casinos (hollywood park, commerce, bike) had that game -- are they not being spread there anymore?

Ultra loose; they will be ready to gamble (even $3/5 with $200 max buyin is big time loose in CA). The easy way to win is just to wait for a hand and simply devour the $6-20 already in the pot by pushing $40 into the pot. As your stack grows, tweak your strategy as necessary.

Re: $40 NL in California
Yes, it is spread at least in the L.A. area. As others have stated, it usually ranges from donktastic to donkalicious. A few sharks pop in from time to time, but are usually waiting for bigger tables or tourneys. You see the occasional grinder with $150 in front of him, along with plenty of folks willing to rebuy. Patience pays.
On the flip side, I find it disturbing to occasionally see guys who feel the need to come to blows with the floor over a $25 pot.

Morongo is VERY loose. 40buyin 1/3
Hawaiian Gardens is 40buyin 1-1 or 1-2, Play isn't that bad I've heard.
I have not been to any other casinos.

Re: $40 NL in California
I've played the $40 buy in game at Oceans 11 (in Oceanside) and the blinds are 1-1. The game is as loose or looser than you can imagine. People have no problem getting their stack in with the worst of it and chasing. Its donktastic!

Re: $40 NL in California
morongo is horribly loose
rich ******* buy in with $100 at a time and they call/all in with anything,
and not because they know how to play but just because they have 2 much money..
i lost some money there because some idiot asian dude called with ace high on flop and made a flush on me.. runner runner..
i even saw some jack ass calling with Jack high for 60 bucks or more..
a lot of idiots be careful.. its not a playing condition for players who buy in for few bucks cause its impossible to bluff at a pot..they just call call call all in.. ah how it pisses me off
