Heads-up, you're probably better off re-raising than calling. |

I'd say that you would have to play significantly better than your opponents if you're planning on calling raises from the blinds. I'd say for a live game, you can probably do very well just waiting and avoiding a lot of these marginal situations because people are willing to gamble with you and take the worst of it.
If you feel like playing, I'd say small connectors and small pocket pairs play well from the blinds -- as long as you're getting appropriate pot+implied odds. Don't call with weak hands if your opponent won't pay you if you hit. I'd tend to be alot more cautious with hands such as AJ, AT, KQ, KJ since your position might get you in trouble postflop. |

First off, I consider defending a blind a situation where its folded to the CO/BU and then they raise; you can only defend IMO if someone is stealing.
As to the original question, its all based on the odds, cards and players. If I can reasonably expect to get at least 3:1 or more by calling (includes EP limpers that I expect will call a MP/LP raise), I'll call with almost any PP, mid to high suited connectors and the like.
If someone is on a steal, I tend to fold more often depending on the player. I'll reraise 3-4x the original raise with any JJ+,AK hand. With other hands, depends on the player and their history (tight nit versus all out bandit). |

Maybe this is my problem.
I tend to do the opposite since I can always just reach in my pocket for more cash, but in a tourney it's life or death. Quote:

You can have success in tournaments by playing various style (mentioned in HOH on that subjet) but generally, the top cash players are TAG's. Notice, I said generally, there are no absolutes in this game.
As to the theory of reaching in pocket for more money, that is only correct where you have a slight advantage in a hand vs the same situation in a tourney where you might fold even tho you had that advantage. Also correct where you get stacked in a cash game where you are the better play. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
