Chips: 555 | | | Low stakes cash games - nickel/dime chips This one is for all of you low-stakes cash game players out there (of which I am currently a member). Does it make sense to you to have chips in play that are worth a lot more than face value? For example, we have chips like the Blue Sands ten-cent chips, or five-cent Crystal Oysters (around a dollar a chip or so). Why not throw some blank faux clays into the mix and call them the nickels/dimes (at the expense of chip continuity)? Finally, for those of you who have expensive low-denom chips, have any of them ever turned up missing after a game? | | Sponsored Links | |

As far as the chips being worth more than face value, I say use whatever you want. It's not a big deal whatsoever IMO. Both my cash sets are blank so we can assign any value on any given night depending on how rich we're feeling. We've played anything from .05/.10 to 1/2 using chips that cost up to $.60 each.

Chips: 372 | | | Re: Low stakes cash games - nickel/dime chips All of my games are pretty much at the 'micro' level ($5 buy in), so in most cases the chips are worth more than the currency behind them. I have a set of original Paulson JBs that I play at the 1/100 level ($5 chip plays for $0.05, etc-- except the $0.50, which plays for face value). Most of the players find it humourous when they find out how much the chips are worth in comparison to the stakes we play.
I've never had any chips go missing, but I have recently switched to the Casino Royale Bonds so that I don't get so up tight when someone inadvertently splashes the pot. If I ever need $1s for the Casino Royale chips, I intend to break out my Sahara Reno chips-- they actually don't look that bad with the rest of them.

(probably a mix of the two) |

Chips: 111 | | | Re: Low stakes cash games - nickel/dime chips Yup, I would use good chips in a micro limit game. This is CT after all, we will use any excuse to play with chips. |

Chips: 2,899 | | | Re: Low stakes cash games - nickel/dime chips I don't worry about this. First, the chips aren't negotiable, so that removes the problem that casinos have with people walking off with their Paulson fractionals. Second, what would my non-CT friends do with a single chip? (If my CT friends wanted one, they'd offer a trade.) Third, I "count" (i.e., rack) my chips at the end of the evening and if a chip were missing I would frisk everybody before allowing anyone to leave.
JKing on the last point, of course. I did miss a chip once but found it later under a piece of furniture. I don't play with people who would steal my chips. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
