Limit Hold 'em - Unlimited Raising

Played on a Princess Cruise ship 2 weeks ago. $3-6 Limit Hold 'em. 5 players at the table.

I'm the button and have . I call, as do 3 others.

Flop hits . Bet, call, call, call.
I'm starting to salivate.

Turn .
Check. Bet, raise and I'm just about drooling.
I re-raise, SB folds. BB calls and guy on my right re-raises. I re-raise and it gets capped and called with 3 of us.

I figure my timing was perfect. I found a guy (on my right) with and another .

I can't figure out what the BB had, either a set, or 2 pair hoping to fill up and beat our flushes?

Then I start to wonder, am I better off getting 2 opponents for a capped round of betting $24 x 2 = $48.... or just going unlimited against 1 opponent with more than $50 left. I didn't figure long, here comes the river...

River brings yet 1 more .

BB bets, RHO raises, I re-raise and BB is all-in.
RHO asks is he can re-raise and gets the go ahead from the dealer, who says he can cap it, and begins a side pot.
I ask if I can re-raise, since there are now only 2 players left.

I'm under the impression, that there are unlimited raises when there are 2 people heads up. Apparantly, that's not the case on Princess. The fact that it was a side pot didn't matter either.

I'm told to call or fold. I call.

BB had and 2 pair going to the river.

RHO has

Best I can figure there was at least $150 in the pot at the end. Best hand ever for me. A little bitter that I couldn't clean out 2 players on the hand, but nothing to complain about

I know I was really lucky to have the other players with hands. We saw another straight flush win $12 and quads took home $6 later on. Amazing hands short handed.

So now that the bragging is done... when are there unlimited raises allowed in your limit games?

Easy. Three players started the betting round after the river card so there will be a cap in every limit game anywhere it is played. Had the all-in happened after the turn card leaving just two players to battle it out on the final betting round, you could reraise till your heart's content.

Yup. That's my experience with it too.

Re: Limit Hold 'em - Unlimited Raising

There are different rules depending on the room. I know there is one that would cover your situation. At certain room, the ruling is that if more than 2 players start that round than it is not consider HU even if it does end up HU as in your case. In other rooms, case as yours would be unlimited raising.

Re: Limit Hold 'em - Unlimited Raising

Roberts says that as soon as it's HU, unlimited kicks in.... of course, any local rules overturn that... as they did here.

Re: Limit Hold 'em - Unlimited Raising

I don't think that most public room uses Roberts rule. Most of the ruling are similar to Robert's but I bet the majoirity of rooms have importance differences. I don't think I have play in any public rooms that uses Robert's 100%.

Re: Limit Hold 'em - Unlimited Raising

from my experience if the hand started out HU then its unlimited. if there was another player in the hand then its caped.. and i also think its a good ruling. it prevents inclusion and makes for a better game.

With limit, I don't think the "unlimited" really makes much of a difference, most of the time, one guy is betting and the other is calling.

So if 3 guys call the flop, and one folds to a bet/raise, the other 2 guys don't get to go unlimited for the turn and river, or just not on the flop?

With the 3 player rule of no unlimited betting, it just goes for that round. If there was 3 players at the flop but he folded on the flop then it would be unlimit for the turn and river. It is not correct to call betting unlimited, the bets are still the fix amount but the number of raises is unlimited.

Just out of curiosity, if you were the button, why didn't you raise that flop?
