peeking at someone elses cards

ok here is the situation. a cash game i used to play at had this one guy who always lifted his cards up so high that the guy to his left would always be able to see his cards. now i know its not planed that way or arranged that way cause i was the guy to his left most of the time. i have tried to take him aside and tell him to put his cards down and that i can see them but he keeps on doing the same thing. now i am not sure what's the proper thing to do here is. someone told me once. hey if he wants to show you look. is that ethical tho? i mean would that be considerd cheating if i looked? its not like i lifted his cards and looked while he was leaning the other side to drink his coffee. he practiacaly shows them to me. so what would you do? tell the rest of the table? have a look and keep quit? turn your head when ever he looks at his cards? what's the right thing to do here?

Re: peeking at someone elses cards

I have heard the pros on this subject before. The answer is that after you have warm him and you are not moving your head or leaning over to get a better view than you can use the info as you see fit.

I have also heard players across the table that cannot get a view complain bitterly and tell the player that is exposing his cards to do a better job of concealing them as it gives the player able to see them an unfair advantage. No comment was ever directed at the player/players that was seeing the exposed card, just comment to the player exposing his own cards.

I edited my post above. If you are not leaning over and just sitting in your normal spot and after letting know that you can see his cards, I would say use the info to your advantage. What more can you do?

As I have posted, even the other players at the table do not blame the looker, only the person exposing own card.

If you've already informed him, you've done your duty. If he still keeps showing you his cards, use the info how ever you want.

Re: peeking at someone elses cards

Yep, that's all right.
Same goes for seeing the cards that the dealer shuffles. It's the dealers responsibility to keep the cards hidden while shuffling, so as a ton of people probably pick their cards up as they shuffle, you can see the last 3,4 or more cards that won't ever get dealt out, even after a cut.

Re: peeking at someone elses cards

Sorry, got to disagree. I have friends that play, and maybe that's the difference, but a couple are notorious for lifting cards etc. and IF, big of the IF I look his way then yes I could see them. I choose to not look because I know that's not his intent (to show me his cards). I could make the choice to stare at the cards the dealer is tossing out if I'm interested in trying to gain some knowledge on what's out there or I can choose to not look. Personally, I don't look because that's the way the game is supposed to be played. Then again, as mentioned, I'm referring to a friendly game in my own home.

Re: peeking at someone elses cards

Okay... first of all, I read:

"peeing at someone elses cards"

and thought what the hell?

Now that I read the thread: I would tell him again while playing. In front of the table. I just would feel bad to win money of him when I know I had an advantage because of this. I don't think it's cheating on your side, because he shows you more or less, but I would want him to learn to pee(k) *lol* properly.

Sorry

I heard you and personally, I have the same experience as the poster. I have done what you say but some people never learn. I have this friend at my game for over 2 years and I have been going at him since the beginning regarding such as above, string bets, etc, etc and he still makes the same mistake every game. I have consider not having him but since his wife pass away, he is lonely and bore and always phoning if there is a game.

Re: peeking at someone elses cards

Whenever I see someone not doing enough to protect thier cards when they are next to me I make sure to tell them... and I don't make a secret about it.
I don't think this has ever not taken care of the issue unless someone is too drunk to care.

I have had a few cases where I was still in a hand and saw another players cards. If/when they mucked I told the dealer what cards I saw and asked them to expose to the rest of the table.

If it were a continuing issue, I would probably just keep announcing the cards. (once they are mucked) It may slow the game for a little bit, but hopefully he will get the hint and correct his ways.
