how late should the game run

i am thinking about starting my own home game. prob is i am married with 3 kids. now its not a problem to play poker. but it is a problem playing really really late. how late do you think a game should go? what's a decent time to call it a night when its a home game?

Re: how late should the game run

I am also married with three kids. I host a weekly .25/.50 NL cash game that starts on Fridays at 9 pm. We have anywhere from 8 to 14 players and usually go until 2:30 or 3 am. Since my wife works Friday nights I see the kids bright and early at 7am. Man do I hate when we go till 4am.

Re: how late should the game run

Whatever your wife and you agree too or in some cases whatever the wife allows you. IMO, most home games shouldn't have a hard stop any sooner than 1-2am which isn't to say they have to go that long but you shouldn't set a fixed stop before that time. Just whatever works for you.

Longest home game I played in went from Sat. 7p to Sun 6p; I gave up after 14hrs though and yes it was held at a bachelor's house.

As late as everyone is comfortable staying.

I'm married with kids....but I push that often with my personal fun times so I'm not the best advice giver for home sanity but we used to play until 6am at times...then the wife got pissed because the baby would wake up blah blah (first born stuff)....now the unwritten rule is 2am but I get away with going past that since we now have two kids with the youngest just turning one....

BUT....I can wake up with 3 hours sleep and function...due to that the wife doesn't care and since they don't hear shat while we're playing in the basement...its all good.

No Loss of Daddy time during wake hours = play as late as you want.

Start at 7:00 and end at 1 or 2 am. That's 6 or 7 hours.

Re: how late should the game run

You're asking us?

When I tell the wifey that I'm hosting, she knows I'll be in bed somewhere between 2AM and Noon the following day. And, her being the CEO, CTO, CIO, CFO, and VP of Quads Inc. she is OK with that.

Me thinks you aught to speak to "The Warden".

Re: how late should the game run

I'll also add that setting a hard and fast stop time for a game is a really tough thing to do. Say you get stuck a few dimes and just start getting your groove back, you got your mind straight, and you're making some headway in getting unstuck.

GAMES CLOSED! GET OUT! G'NITE!

Yeah- that sucks.

Be flexible within an hour or so.

Close it up when ever you want. If the game keeps going keep it going

Re: how late should the game run

Married with 2 kids. Me an my wife both play. We don't have a hard stop, but we usually start around 9pm and end around 3-3:30am. My kids are a little older now, so they can get breakfast and turn on the tv without waking us. I tell my oldest, unless the house is on fire, don't wake us up! It was really tough when they were younger, though.
