I've made money on just about every casino visit. (About 6 visits). Online, I'm trying ot change, playing tighter. I didn't bluff once last night...hit a bad stretch where I an into the nuts every time...but playing tight solid poker I doubled up...but it is boring.
Home game....well I play only top ten hands.
My top ten hands are -
4,6 suited
7,9 suited
7,8 suited
3,4 suited
8,9 suited
2,5 suited
6,9 suited
5,6 suited
A,A...suited

I also walk into a casino with money that has been set aside for that purpose alone whether it's poker, blackjack, slots (yeah...right), craps, etc. I don't go to a casino to make enough money to pay off our house or to pay bills. I consider it an evening of entertainment which is probably why I'm not terribly upset if I go bust.
Fairly loose in home games. Again, I'm fairly new to the home cash game scene, so hopefully I'll begin to play a bit tighter and become successful.
Haven't played online for real money in quite some time. When I did, saying I played like a maniac would be the understatement of the century. I mainly played micro-stakes and was just wild. Raising when I knew I was beat but had 2 outs, moving in with bottom pair with 4 hearts on the board or 4 cards to a straight....ugh. |

Chips: 5,690 | | | Re: Differences in Home vs Casino vs Online Waaaaaaaaaaay different. Most of my comments here are with respect to low limit or spread limit games, as opposed to NL or tournies.
1. Home Game
A bunch of smart, ABC players who have all read the poker books. Only one player is smart/brave enough to "step outside the box". We often end up going head to head because I will stand up to him. I'm playing probably >30% of hands here, which is outrageous in the other circumstances. The predictable tight play of the other players makes playing more hand more profitable - plus is fun to suck out on your friends. I recently moved though, and have played a couple of games with a new group who tend to be lags - I think tighter play is more appropriate there.
2. Casino (California)
Low limit casino play in Cali is *crazy*. Lots of capped multi-way flops and total lag play pf. I tend to play very tight here, and position makes all the difference. Suited Ax is more profitable here in all positions though, than in a home game or a tight online game, and is one of the hands I will play that is normally an easy toss elsewhere. Huge pots can be built, and some thought has to be put into post flop play, and swings can be huge, but it's fun.
3. Casino (Edmonton, limited Vegas experience)
I've only been to Vegas twice, but the games there are more similar to the games in Edmonton (although perhaps not quite as soft). Still lots of multiway pots, but way less aggro with smaller pots. I play a few more hands overall than in Cali (more likely to limp with QJ in mp) but still much tighter than my home game - probably have a vpip of about 22%. Raising here is more effective on all streets for both value and fold equity.
4. Online
I tend to play the tightest online - just ABC poker, nothing fancy. Much harder to find a "good" table, and often concentrate on getting money from a single player or two, instead of knowing that over half the table is donating. VPIP is almost always under 20%.

it's just easier to remember details about live players. it helps me bigtime to see the other players. |

I'm one of those Donks that you catch yourself yelling at the monitor when I suckout on you. To me Online play vs Live Play is like plastic is to cash. Outta sight outta mind. I'm willing to gamble way much more online then in live play. |

I find myself gambling a lot and trying to bluff like crazy when I play Online, but of course I get called all the time and lose.
Exactly the opposite playing live. I rarely gamble or bluff when I play at home or casinos (okay...maybe I bluff a little more than it seems). | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
