Chips: 519 | | | Dedicated Dealer Been talking about hiring a dealer for our game / tournys.
What is the going rate for a home game / tourny?
Is it a flat rate? Are there tokes? is it different for cash games and tournys?

Stock | We found a friend who wanted to come an hang out with us on poker night, but realized after a few weeks of playing he wasn't any good at the game, nor did he really care to start studying and improving it.
At first he was a little clumsy with dealing the cards but after about 3 nights of dealing, and showing him a few hints, he really got the hang of it.
He comes over and works for tips from 5-10pm, after that it is at his option to stay or leave.
He is tipped by the winners, (We play .50/$1 NLHE, typical load up is $60) gets free drinks, and usually walks with about $80-100 in cash. (Which is more than be said for many of the players!)
Just a thought. A "professional" dealer will probably want hundreds for a "shift" unless they are a friend that will cut you a deal, so to speak. |

Sorry, I'm not a lawyer but just don't want people unnecessarily getting in trouble. | Tipping is optional, but occurs frequently enough for it to be good for everyone involved. The dealer walks away with some cash, and each the winners might have ended up tipping out $10-15 for having not to deal the cards all night.
He is not the house (we are) and the money only comes from the other players at the table, and always in chips from the pot. He is never given money from their pockets, just from won pots, and it is never mandated. (Of course when someone doesn't tip the dealer on a huge pot, there might be some "Cheapskate" comments made...)
Now if we (the house) were keeping it, I could see your concern, but this is an independant person working on their own time to deal cards to a 100% legal home poker game.
It's very similar to having a house party and hiring a bartender to serve drinks to your guests. You don't need a liquor license to do that since you (the house/business) are not profiting from the sale of the alcoholic beverages. |

In my state, anyone who profits from gambling in any way (other than as a player) is in violation of the law. This includes paying a guy to deal or run your game, or selling food, drink or merchandise where a game is being held. |
