2nd Edition Sands $5 (Holy Crap!)

Wow! You don't see this every day:
http://cgi.ebay.com/5-Obsolete-Sands...QQcmdZViewItem

This is the exact chip that is one of 7 on the front cover of the 3rd edition of the Official US Casino Price Guide.

I don't usually like to post here, but I don't think that by posting here it will give away any secrets. It's not mine, but I sure wish it was. Only about 30 minutes to go and it is just a tad over $9000. The price guide says R9 and Ave = $17,500, SU = $26,500. From the pic it is surely not new so no point in even posting that price. I wonder what it will fetch? Anyone want to guess?

I am going to guess $20,100

Re: 2nd Edition Sands $5 (Holy Crap!)

Strange how the description is so poor. Looking at their other items, I'd guess they buy things from estate auctions or something. I don't think they realize the value of this chip or how to grade the condition. I could be wrong, but can you imagine if you checked ebay and saw something you bought for $20 in a lot of items up to over $13,000? They don't even offer insurance on it...

Yea, I think you might be right. All they say is "This chip is in excellent condition and easily ledgible"

That would be quite a rush!

Re: 2nd Edition Sands $5 (Holy Crap!)

Holy Crap is right !!!

It shot up from around $13,000 to its final price of...

$14,979.98

Somebody sure was sniping on this one.
I can't even imagine spending that much money on a chip.
I think I would puke if I made a bid that high on eBay...

Re: 2nd Edition Sands $5 (Holy Crap!)

Sorry to threadjack here but why is this chip worth that much? Obviously I know nothing about chip collecting but $14K for one chip is incredible. Are there are chips out there as expensive as this one?

Yes, I heard some are going for 100K. Ask yourself this question, why is Barry Bond 756 home run ball is so expensive? It is only a home run ball (1 Million).

Re: 2nd Edition Sands $5 (Holy Crap!)

That's insane. I know old sands chips are rare, but that much for one chip. Way out of my price range. Guess that is one of those collectables just for the rich.

I'm going to guess...

$14,979

It's a total ripoff anything above $14,980.

There was a Last Frontier $5 crest & seal chip that went for over $40000 last year and i know that there have been several private transactions for chips that have sold in the $50000 to $100000 range. I have never paid more than $400 for a chip, out of my league!
