Chips: 414 | | | New EBay Scam?? Ok so not a scam per se but I was not sure what to call this activity.
In the past 14 days I have recived serval "TKO notices" from EBay stating that my user password was suspended due to possible fruadulent activity. No I have not answered / clicked on / forwarded / read / or anything else any spam emails or fake web links. After talking with EBay they tell me that the reason that my passwords were suspended was due to multiple incorrect login attempts being made from a computer that I do not normally use. I am not too worried about my password being "guessed" as it is very long with both numbers and digits and makes no sense at all. So last night I place a VERY large bid on an auction that ended early in the AM for me. I knew that I would not be awake to watch it so I go "all in" before I go to bed. I even considered setting up an ESnipe account just for this auction but I decide aginst it. So I wake up today to find that I lost the auction but also that my password was suspended again. I look closer and find that my password was suspended 2 min before the auction was to end??? Checking the previous suspensions I find that all of them happened 2 minutes BEFORE an auction that I was bidding on was ending..
He are my thoughts.. Someone wants to win an auction. Someone is worried about a snipe bid. Said someone attempts to log on to EBay with the high bidder or all the current bidder's account names (they are listed in bid history) to suspend their accounts just before the end of the auction. This would prevent a bid snipe program from working.
Has anyone else had this issue or am I just paranoid?

Cyna - | Smells funny doesn't it. Never happened to me, but I would be a bit more than annoyed if this happened to me.
btw, would you have won the auction?

Yours sounds different, but it still stinks. |

Just to clarify. The email I recieved was real and EBay did confirm that it was them who sent it and also suspended my password. They told me that they are trying to "crack down" on the increasing fraud. |

Chips: 18,368 | | | Re: New EBay Scam?? Are the auctions you are bidding on under $200? Part of the new fraud/shill bid prevention policy is to only show "Bidder #" now instead of the user name. I am curious about the auctions you are talking about. If they are under $200 the is a crappy way to "Lose" an auction. I know ebay keeps IP addresses on file - I wonder if you report it they can block the IP's that the bogus log in attempts are coming from

Just to be clear -- when you said you "talked to FEEbay" -- does that mean you are a PowerSeller thus have phone support or did you use their on-line live help (not sure how that works)?? My point being, if you used any link whatsoever from the original email, RATHER than going to FEEbay directly (ebay.com), logging in and contacting them, then you've given away your login information to the scammers.
After years and years of being hit with their crap and being pretty "with it" tech wise, they caught me one day with a new one -- fortunately I knew the instant after I "logged-in" via their email what I had done and changed all my passwords. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
