Re: Is this guy for real?!?!?!?!

Usually the bankroller would get the biggest piece of the take right? He kindly offers to pay his own airfare, which some schmuck pays the entire entry fee and only gets to split in half?

Apparently this kind of deal is the norm....the backer gets his $10,000 first...so if the guy cashes for $150,000 the backer would get his ten and they'd split the 140,000 that remains. But also the normal deal would see that buy in stay on the books until the guy finally cashes. And anyone who finishes 7th in PLO at last years WSOP ain't no slouch.

Re: Is this guy for real?!?!?!?!

Why would I bank him and not just go play myself? I have as much a chance as he does.

Re: Is this guy for real?!?!?!?!

im confused... if you have been playing poker for 50 years and have won tournaments and stuff, wouldnt you have your own 10k? wouldnt you have some sort of bankroll, or perhaps a job to support you and your habits? I know if i was going to bankroll someone in the tournament, it wouldnt be some guy that has been playing for 50 years and has to resort to begging for the entry fee to get in. just my 2cents

Re: Is this guy for real?!?!?!?!

People who back others do it to smooth out the variance. You can be a great player and not cash for months in big events....backing people is a way of hedging your bets. And I don't think most people are as good as this guy. Or do any CTers have a bracelet I don't know of?

Re: Is this guy for real?!?!?!?!

I'll tell you what...if 9 people + me (10 total) put up 1000 each, I'll play in the main event and split any winnings evenly 10 ways. No expenses, no airfare, nothing. I'll pay for myself to get there, sleep, and eat. Would anyone actually be interested in this?
