looks like new chips for 2007 though. i was wondering this myself while i watched the final table. 87,700,000 should have been in play but when u added up the totals, it came out to around 90 mil. where did the extra 2 mil come from?
Maybe the extra 2 mill appeared during the colouring-up periods. I'm assuming that due to table breaks and so on there may be odd numbers of low denom chips at many tables which would result in leftovers even after highcarding. In this case, whoever won the high card would probably receive a chip of the next highest value regardless of whether or not the lower denom chips equalled the value of the higher denom chip (eg. 3 left over $25 most likely be replaced with one single $100). The same scenario arises if a player is forced to give up all of his chips during a colour-up (eg. a player only have 3 $25 chips left during the colour-up to $100). He cannot be 'all-in' and so if he loses the high card for odd chips he is awarded a single unit of the next highest value chip, $100.
I imagine that this occuring across a field of 8,500+ at several colouring-up stages would be enough to increase the amount of chips in play by that number. I could be completely wrong, however.
