Because it's an extraordinary chip. There are only 6 or 7 known and 1/2 of those are canceled so their value is lower. This one looks to be pristeen and is worth anywhere up to $3k and maybe even more. It was a tiny little casino that was taken over by the Mint and later became the Horseshoe so there's quite a history too. Gorgeous chip.

$1200 is nothing, i've seen single chips go for >$30K!!! (on ebay)...
