| Re: Saturday Nights Game... So with these 4 guys added to the mix the entire night seemed so different. The tournament was okay for the most part, two tables even balanced until we merged with 6 players remaining. The play was very solid all around, which was refreshing because sometimes there can be some pretty donkish play. In fact when it was down to five players the BB took a walk two hands in a row!! That has never happened before in the garage. In addition to that there were several times when the button would raise and both blinds would fold!!!!
Now as the tournament was ending a "small stakes" cash game broke out. The ring leaders were the 4 new guys. I handed my cash set of chips over to one of the regulars and he starts handing out chips; that was my first mistake. So they get to playing all sorts of games; Bingo, 7-27, Follow the Queen, Stud, Draw. And for the most part they seemed to be having a good time. After the tournament [which I won- 1st paid $56- woo hoo] I bought into the cash game and took control of the bank. It didn't take long until the games got crazier and the bigger pots caused some heated arguments.
For instance in a game of 7/27 the once quiet player got into it with the guy who questioned everything. The quiet guy runs out of chips and asks if he can put money on the table, I say "Just buy more chips." The rest of the table pipes up against me and we proceed; my second mistake, but I figured I could remove the money and exchange it for chips after the hand. Then a discussion about what each card with worth comes up- now this is after we have played the game 2 times AND we all have at least bet at least 3 times. The guy who questioned everything starts in on the quiet guy telling him there is no way he can win, the quiet guy stands up and hollers "I got 100 bucks says I do." The questioner says, "I call that bet." So I interject and tell everyone to cool off and we keep playing. A few heart beats go by and the quiet guy gets his 100 out and puts it on the table. One of the other new guys mentions the bet and now the questioner realizes that the quiet guy meant business and wants to retract the bet.
Well all hell breaks loose. It wasn't on the verge of a fist fight or anything but there was lots of finger pointing and yelling. There has never been a fight like this in the garage. One time two guys got into over a bet size but nothing like this. It was totally insane!!
After about 5 min everyone cools off and we get back to the hand. A round of betting happens and the game is over. The pot is split between the questioner and one of the other new guys and we move on to the next game. The total pot was close to $20.
The regulars play one more hand and cash out. I am left with the 4 new guys. After a nice game of stud 8. The quiet guy cashes out.
Next game is Screw your Neighbor, the Dealer says "Put out 3 stacks of $15 each." I say "WTF? Are you kidding?" He says, "No." I say, "If you want to call that game I will play for $3 stacks, but nothing higher." The other guys say "$15 is good, deal em", I stop them and say "Its $3 or nothing because we just had an argument over a $20 pot, what is going to happen with a $60 pot?" They agree, begrudgingly and we play.
Next game the questioner calls Blackjack: .50¢-$5 max bet. He says he is going to deal one deck. I play for .50¢ the other new guys play for $3 each. We all win. Next hand I play for .50¢ they play for $5. We all lose. Same amounts for the next hand but one guy is short of $5 in chips- he has like $3.75 and says "I am betting 5 bucks even though I don't have enough chips." Dealer says, "Okay." I lose, guy who was short hits a Blackjack and the dealer says "I'll match your chips." He does that and starts to deal the next hand. The winner says, "I bet $5, I just didn't have the chips for it. I told you I bet $5." The dealer says, "You didn't say anything to me, you should have put money on table." Well the **** hits the fan again. I stand up and stop everything. Tell the guys thanks for coming and that I will cash them out.
As I am counting out their chips and begin paying them from the bank I run short. $15 dollars short just for them, and another $7.55 for me. Now it seems strange that I am short something close to $20. I figure that during the first huge argument, or at some other point in the night, someone slipped over to the till and helped themselves. That or someone may have cashed out before I got involved and the regular screwed up- who knows for sure.
Now the guys who were fighting realized how pissed off I am apologize after I start f-bombing about the bank being short. They all settle up so they are happy and I am out $7.55...not a big deal really, but irritates me that someone might steal from me. Let me tell you I was very happy that they left quietly.
Anyways, what are my lessons learned...
1. Invite 1 new guy at time.
2. I am always the bank...always.
3. Stick to NLHE, or limit all betting amounts, and institute caps for the pots.
I am not sure what the deal was because each of these guys on their own have been fine everytime I have played with them. It must have been mixing them altogether, adding some alcohol, and some bigger money that turned them into a$$ clowns. Who knows.
That is all for now...thanks taking the time to read my ramblings.... |
