IMO having denoms on the chips is helpful.

Unless you always play with the same people, and are willing to spend a night or two fixing incorrect bets and telling them over and over "The purple is $1" before they all commit it to memory, I'd suggest getting them denominated.

If you are getting a "standard tournament set" and your players are used to the typical casino set-up of Red=5, Green=25, Black=100, etc, then you can consider more comfortably getting a non-denominated set.
