Re: ASM Quality Control- What is a fair expectation?

A. D.,

Regarding the edge spot, it looks like the edge spot material split in the middle of the chip. The issue did not appear on ANY of the 870 other colored chips in this set that had a higher number produced. Also, this only showed up on the black spots on these two chips with a 100 and 30-chip run.

I have experience with Paulson chips and have handled a few casino chips in my time, and while the edges of edge spots are never straight, the edge spots are never bisected like this. The comment about the ceramics was uncalled for.

I'm asking because I want to understand, not be talked down to.

The thickness difference. That's more than I've seen, but probably not unheard of. It may be just a few that throw the stacks off.

The thing to remember, these are made by hand and compressed under a great deal of pressure (I think about 10,000 PSI) and temperature (I've heard 300 degrees F). They are not science. They are art. If you expect them to be absolutely perfect and uniform... you really should have got ceramics.

Spinners.... I'm beginning to think that some of the spinner problem people run across is due to the chips warping in the heat of shipment. I got mine in June... in Arizona. I know they spent some time in Phoenix before being trucked here (Tucson). I know ASM took the Roman mold out of availability to get it fixed, so I'm doubtful it's the mold. There may be problems with the inlays, but ASM changed the way they fix the inlays before stamping some time back as well.

My datapoint is I have H molds with quite a few spinners. Others have received H molds that were made within a couple months of mine with no spinners. I'm going to try the unwarping method for the Paulsons that has been mentioned here to see if that takes care of it. I also have some more H molds due towards the end of October (when the temperatures are a little more sane). My bet is I have no spinners in that batch....

In other words, you got perfectly normal chips. Don't worry and play with them. They will make you happier!

[EDIT] - Thanks JM. I knew that posting by JimB was around, I was just too lazy to go hunt it down....
