I have also seen it where a player hits the big pot early - sits out- and then jumps back in every so often to play when he/she has big pocket cards. I guess the advantage I have as a players is:
1. When that player is on the blinds I know there is a better chance of stealing them
2. If the player jumps in to play the hand they have a big hand and I will change my play accordingly
