I allow it in my home games, but I've been to home games where it's not allowed.

It doesn't really change anything -- it just lowers your overall variance for the game. Sure, maybe you'll end up chopping a pot you would have won, but then again, you might end up chopping a pot that you would have lost when the guy gets lucky on the turn or river.
