WSOP Main Event starts today - 12,000 entrants?

Is that right? 12,000 players in the ME? Below is a link to the first article I've seen reporting a number and I know it's likely rounded up (or maybe down a bit), but good gracious that's a lot of people! I had a feeling the number of entrants wouldn't decrease drastically from last year, but I never expected 3,000ish more people to show up. Wow.
