The purpose of delivery confirmation (.50 extra) is so the sender can prove it was delivered. That way, if the package disappears after delivery (stolen at work etc.) The sender is off the hook. It does nothing for the recipient except tells them the package has or has not been delivered.
I had a package delivered to my work and then stolen. The sender simply sent the delivery conf number to shut me up.
If you want to be sure you receive a package, request signature confirmation.
