| Re: Oiling Paulson HotStamps/Inlays **** Conclusion **** OK so here it is, as Paul Harvey would say "The Rest of the Story".
So I recently purchased 200 of the MGM quarters. They were a bit dirty but overall very good shape. On Wednesday night, I decided to clean the whole lot. I had intended to leave 1 stack of 20 uncleaned for comparison purposes but totally forgot about that when it came time to get it done. So I chose the Oxi-clean method and filled a bucket with pretty warm water and added about a 1/2 scoop of the stuff and stirred it up. I then proceeded to place all 180 of my chips into the solution (I had cleaned 20 of them at work earlier in the day because I just couldn't wait). I let them sit for about 20 minutes and then started picking them out one by one and giving them a 20 second scrub with a plain sponge. I am not sure the scrub was necessary but it made me feel better that the chips were really clean. I then placed each chip into a cold water rinse bucket and then dried the chips individually. On first look I thought that the chips may have faded in the cleaning process so I was curious what oiling the chips may do. So, yesterday I oiled 40 chips and checked out the progress this morning. Bottom line is I can't tell the oiled chips from the non oiled, which is great because it was a pain in the arse.
So my overall findings are this... Oxi-Clean is awesome (and cheap) for cleaning Paulson inlayed chips and oiling is a complete waste of time. Thanks for all your input and help.
