i tilt easily, long and strong. so in live play i do my best to keep the yap shut.
been playing 4/8 limit at muckleshoot in nearby auburn and running well. last week this happened:
in a 6 way pot, i limp on the button with 87o (with the
). flop comes with two clubs and a seven. it checks around. on the turn the 8 of clubs comes, giving me two pair and a weak flush draw. i bet and 4 players call. the river brings another club, and we check it around.
i wait for it to get to me before opening my hand. i want to see the other hands, i don't think my flush is good, and...there's no reason to open it up as far as i can tell.
the best hand shown is the
, and finally i open mine and rake the pot. the guy with the
gets huffy. "why can't you show yours first?" me: "i didn't need to." him "yeah, i know you didn't need to, but why didn't you?" me: silence.
what am i gonna do, get in an argument with him about it? the dealer mentions that without betting on the river, hands are shown in order from the blinds.
huffy racks up and storms off.
forward to last night. woman on my right. not very good. she enjoys a comp meal and 4 glasses of merlot, and we talk. she asks about ipods. i explain. she asks about her blackberry. i help. we talk about her poker playing spouse, who i've played with a few times before, and is at a nearby table. she talks strategy and reads on other players and i nod and smile (but she doesn't know much).
after a couple of hours, i call a raise in the bb with 84o (7 ways). flop comes with an 8, she bets out on all streets, and an 8 comes on the river. i check raise her, she calls with one pair, and i rake the pot.
"you check-raised me, didn't you? that's pretty much b%%hit!"
"sorry."
"sorry, he says."
i kinda think she's kidding. but then i know she's not. she is grumbling about it nonstop, especially me playing 84. i put on the ipod.
her husband comes over and asks how things are going. "here we are playing a friendly game, and this guy checkraises me with 84 and then says sorry. can you believe that?" he shrugs it off (as any reasonable person would), and she glares at him.
a seat opens up to her right, and she moves (so as not to be next to...THAT CHECK-RAISING GUY!). she tells her new neighborhood that "these kids think they're playing for $1000! can you believe, trying to make that one extra bet?"
a few minutes later she cracks my AA for a medium sized pot and takes great joy in it. a little while later she busts (for her second hundred) and hauls, giving me a nasty look for punctuation.
so my question...if everyone limps to you and you're on the button with KQs (in a limit game), it's a clear raise, right?
