The joker on a hold em game would be too complicated and impractical since:

1. If the joker comes on the board there are just too many possibilities.

2. If a player has it in his/her hand s/he almost has an insurmountable edge, again, because the community cards all players share.

3. Even if you make the joker just to complete the straight/flush only (not even an ace) it will not work because of condition No. 1.

The joker should be used for non-community card poker games.
