Best Book For Learning B&M Low Limit Cash Games

Title says it in a nutshell. I would go with the obvious Lee Jones book but I have read it is really for just beginners...I've just finished Harrington On Hold'em (I & II) and feel like my NL is shaping up nicely. Want to explore limit. Point me in the right direction.

Start with Lee Jones "WLLH" or "Getting Started in Holdem" by Ed Miller basic but I think everyone need to start with the basic's first. After you have absorb that one, the next one is "Small Stakes...." by Ed Miller, Sklansky, Malmuth.

It's called "The Book of Hard Knocks" son! Available at your local casino....retails for about 500x the big bet.....nothing like some seat time to reinforce wisdom passed on by print! (it's more fun than reading too!)

Re: Best Book For Learning B&M Low Limit Cash Games

If you've read Lee Jones and find it basic, read Small Stakes Hold'em by Ed Miller et al. (Sklansky and Malmuth I believe). That is overall the best book for loose low-limit limit games. Some people find the advice too aggressive; some say that no game is so loose as to have an average of 6-8 pf callers. But I find that at the B&M, 6-8 callers is not at all unusual.

I would skip the rest and save your money. The bible for low stakes limit hold'em is Small Stakes Hold'em for Advanced Players by Miller. It takes several read throughs, and taking a few notes doesn't hurt. But if you can understand and incorporate the concepts into the plays you can crush these games.

gl at the tables.

Doesn't help or doesn't hurt?

Re: Best Book For Learning B&M Low Limit Cash Games

Skip Jones, go straight to "Small Stakes...." by Ed Miller, Sklansky, Malmuth – Read it, then Read it again. Then play a while. Then Re-Read it. My copy is about ready to fall apart. I’m just trying to get one more read through before I have to buy a new copy.

Even if your game doesn’t have 6+ players to the flop, the strategy in this book will help you quite a bit.

A good follow-up for tougher games would be “Middle Limit Hodem Poker” by Ciaffone and Brier. Lots of examples, emphasizes conservative play against many players and aggressive play against few or one. Not an easy read, but it is amazing how much content this book has vs. your average poker book.

Re: Best Book For Learning B&M Low Limit Cash Games

Small Stakes Hold'em, but make sure that the games you're playing in fit under the umbrella of "loose, passive" that the book talks about. If they don't, you're going to lose your ass playing the way described in the book. Luckily, very few B&M low limit games are NOT that type of game.

Re: Best Book For Learning B&M Low Limit Cash Games

I apologize for the bump but I feel an update is required.

I bought SSH; read it, (parts several times) and finally got to go to AC and play some (came back this evening).

This book is the bible for these games. I played at Resorts and the Tropicana, 2/4 LHE. Put in about 4-5 hrs, walked away up $150. I consider that a success and I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to this thread and recommended Small Stakes Holdem. Without reservation I recommend it to anyone else interested in learning limit.
