...first answer: You can never, ever have too many Pharaohs or plaques. So assuming you get a second mortgage or something.....
I like to start my group with 20 - $25, 40 - $100, 20 - $500, 20 - $1,000 which is $34,500 I think. If we have 16 or so players that's a bit over $500,000 in chips -- when we combine at the final table I bring out the plaques and typically chip out the $500's and $1,000's until the final two are plaque on plaque baby! It's awesome!
As far as the blind time goes, I've held a monthly game on Thursdays and we typically have to run under 15 min. blinds to get done by 10:30 (start at 7) -- work night, kids trying to sleep upstairs etc. BUT, we just tried Friday night and ran the blinds at 25 min and WHAT A DIFFERENCE -- so much more poker could be played. Much more relaxed, way more fun and everyone loved it. This pushed us from a 3.5 hr game to 5 hr game but on Friday night it was totally cool. Just a thought. |
