| Re: Rebuy Tourney question... When we do a re-buy (and/or add-on) we structure it like this:
$25 Buy-in - $3000 in chips. (We call 500 chips a "bonus")
$20 Rebuy - $2000 in chips.
$20 Add-on - $1500 in chips.
We stop the Re-buy period at the first break, usually after the first 3 blind levels (just before the 200/400 level, we start at 25/50). We allow the add-on to continue as an option so long as you have one chip on the table you can Add-on, but you must bust out to make the re-buy. Obviously at a point in the game the blinds are high enough that the Add-on just defeats itself. Who want's to buy 3 BB's for $20?
As you can see each option is less and less beneficial, therefor it is to your own disadvantage (chip to money ratio) to do the Re-buy or the Add-on)
But we still get about 50% of the players to doing a re-buy and about 25% doing an add on.
On a side note, I've won several tournaments, both at home games and at casinos, and of the 6 or so wins in the last year, not ONCE did I re-buy or add-on and continue on to the win. All wins were done with the original buy-in and no more. It just seems that the cards are running for you, or they are not, and feeding the pot monster extra chips only aggravates it.
Dunno if that's just me, but it seems that the Re-buy and Add-on are almost "suckers bets" in my personal tourney history. |
