I'm very sorry to hear that. What a tragic loss. An unexpected death always shakes us to our core, because of what might have been and how helpless we feel.
But the greatest tribute you can give is to honor his life in some way that lives on. A commemorative chip sounds like the perfect keepsake, for his family and all those who knew him. What a wonderful way to remember him, and a fitting reminder of the good times he brought to your group.
Maybe you could "donate" the buy-ins from your next poker tournament to getting a commemorative chip made. Then play the tourney with an empty chair for him, laugh about the things he used to do, quaff a few of his favorite beverages, and say good-bye with laughs, tears, jokes, and anything else that comes out.
