when does the kicker plays is role??

Hello folks,

last night we had a home game and on one hand... one person had Kc 5c and the other had 3c 4c... Now the flop came Ac Js 6c... then Kc 5c calls all in and the other calls... now the turn and river are also clubs.... the argument was does the Ac on the table determine a split pot...or does the person with the Kc wins the pot being second highest flush... wins??? please advice with all your expertise...

also second questions.. can you guys helps us out when does the kicker on a hand play. We have had situations where we are not agreeing when the kicker plays a role in determining the winning hand...
