| Police bust poker game in Utah (People, if you're going to take a rake - which is not a good idea in the first place, but still - don't compound the problem by doing other stupidly illegal stuff. It just adds to the sensationalistic nature of these busts.)

A Wednesday night police raid on a poker game being run out of a Logan, Utah, warehouse resulted in the arrest of three men on racketeering charges and the seizure of more than $600 and various kinds of gambling equipment. A Logan police spokesperson called the game a "gambling business" and said it may have been operating for several months.
Agents broke up the game at around 9:45 p.m. Ten men were competing at a poker table, which police confiscated along with two other tables, poker chips, and cash. Authorities say organizers were serving food and alcohol to patrons.
"This was a business. The owner was representing the house, and taking a certain share of each hand," Logan Police Lt. Rod Peterson said. "This was much different than someone sitting at their house having a game."
Peterson said the warehouse operation was able to accommodate up to 30 people at one time.
"This was a relatively slow night for them," Peterson said.
Each of the three men arrested face a second-degree felony charge of racketeering and a class-B misdemeanor charge of racketeering. Two of them were also cited for a class-B misdemeanor charge of supplying alcohol to a minor, while one was later cited on a second-degree felony for possession of a controlled subject.
The men involved in the poker game were given misdemeanor citations, said Peterson. |
