One thing to realise too is that your cash set will most likely never be on the same table as your tourney set - so it's pointless to try to have one big progression unless you're selling the chips or something.
You will know where your cash set ends and your tourney set starts. Just make 2 progressions, otherwise you end up with all the boring chips on your cash table. (like in 21 Chips' example)
Here's a sample cash / tourney progression. Most people will only need 4 denoms of each set (5c and T5000 chips are useless for most people) and in that case I'd drop the 314 from the cash set and the 212 from the tourney set.
