I personally think it's hilarious when the US treats the internet like its "theirs" and they threaten that they can do whatever they want with it, let alone actually control it.
That child (the 'net) has grown up, left home, and is now plowing through downtown Tokyo using subway trains as dental floss. You can never go home again.
The internet belongs to NO ONE and no matter how smart the US Gov geeks think they are, there is always going to be some 15 year old kid in India with a wireless laptop that can break the codes and re-route 1000 IP addresses back through the high orbit sattelite while picking the dirt from between his toes with the other hand.
