However this is a perfect example why EVERY time we play at my house, before one card is dealt to a player, I suit and count out the cards and fan them on the table while everyone is sitting and ready to play, just like they do in the casinos.
I sometimes get some eye rolling like it is an unnecessary task, but it is a good habit to get into EVERY time you sit down to play, or get out a new deck during play.
We had a situation just a few weekends ago that validated my actions, where I grabbed one half of a matched set of BAY 101 red casino KEM's, and as it turned out (discovered while suiting and counting) that the Ace of Clubs from the
other deck had slid over to this deck so there were two of them in the deck I grabbed from the box.
If I had not suited and counted them ALL we would have started playing with 5 Aces in the deck, & two Ace of Spades. Not cool.
Another time while doing this with a brand new deck, it was discovered that there was a factory defect in the 6 of Clubs on my green ringback KEM's that showed on both the face and the back (a dark spot like a chunk of junk fell into the card during manufacturing) and we had to crack a new deck and shelve that deck until I could get a replacement card. This also would not have been noticed unless the entire deck was inspected prior to play.
