I am planning on buying a full set of 1500 custom chips. These 750 for my cash games, and 750 for my tourney set (250 each of $25, $100, $500 - very flexible breakdown, allows us to play pretty much anywhere from T1000 - T5000 with rebuys and even T10000 without rebuys, slightly dependant on number of players that show of course).
My intention is to not mix the two sets, i.e. no tourneys will have any denom smaller than a $25 and no cash game will have any denom larger than a $5 in an effort to keep any potential chip movement ($25 chip from a tourney down to the cash side game or in the next weeks cash game). That said, all 1500 chips will be present at all games, so if we are playing a large cash game (which is unlikely to ever happen on a tourney night, only potential to happen on a cash game only night) and the need arises I can bring in some of the tourney $25 chips to fill up, I'll just have to make doubly certain the chip counts are right at the end of the night & potentially whenever people cash out.
