Martini Club/ Mardi Gras Clay mold question...

Does anyone know if this mold has any kind of recessed area such that it will accomodate a label of any size? My idea is to get some of each to make the set I want and then to slap on my own ripped sheets label over the different labels to make one uniform set.

Yes, there is a 1-1/16" wide recess. It is not very deep and a label might protrude above the main surface. Also, labels might not stick well to the textured finish. Once you see the 4-color textured inlay on these chips, I don’t think you would want to cover it up anyway. These are very nice chips!

	glos_inlay The label or decal on a poker chip. Quality inlays are inlaid or pressed into the surface of the chip, not laid on top of it like a sticker.

Those are pretty expensive chips to slap labels on, but if that's what you want to do, they will accommodate the vinyl/poly or paper labels from Consolidated/onlinelabels. If you want to pay 10x as much, then there is more than enough room to accommodate the thinner labels from ripped sheets as well.

The factory labels on both sets are really nice -- linen finish and good color. The Mardi Gras are a little sharper printing, based on my samples.

The labels are a little smaller in diameter than the actual indentation.

BUT, I measured my chips and to answer your question... the inset is about .004-.005 inches on each side (my samples varied a bit, as expected).

The Martinis were actually inset a tiny bit more than the Mardi Gras.

I don't know the thickness of paper or vinyl labels, but if you can get thin labels that are less than .005" with adhesive, you should not have anything sticking above the plane of the chip rim.

And of course if you're going to be labelling, you could mix & match the MC/MG chips to get the colors and edge spots you like.

I haven't measured the vinyl labels but they fit fine on the Mardi Gras chips without going above the rim of the chip. The poly labels that Consolidated sells now are just a tad thinner so they shouldn't be a problem at all; they feel like they're about the same thickness as the paper labels.

Today, I tested the label theories outlined in this thread with a sample set of Mardi Gras and both poly and paper labels from onlinelables.com and found that the labels do indeed fit but they turned all the chips into spinners on one side. Ahh, the scientific method!
