Chips: 643.0 Bank: 0.0 Total Chips: 643.0 | | | Better ASM's - Money Talks
So, we all know ASM only makes 3x1 chips for the public right.
It says "312 chips are the only chips we sell to non-casinos" But this is obvious bunk. They made cooler chips for Rounders and the Boilerroom. Neither of these movies are casinos.
So how did they get the chips?
I'm guessing money talks.
If we could get 3x1 (1/4 inch), 4x1 (1/4 inch), 6x1(1/4 inch or 1/8 inch), 8x1 (1/4 or 1/8 inch) 2 or 3 color chips . How much would you pay for them? How many would you order?
Would you buy 500 at $2 bucks each?

Movie production houses have credibility.
Some guy waving a small stack of cash does not.
I'm pretty sure you're missing the big point here, though. You have to understand, casinos currently trust the vendor not to make comparable products to the private sector. These casinos buy chips in the tens and hundreds of thousands in quantities.
Do you really think that if someone offered a singular 50 thousand dollar order in chips from them that they'd undermine their long standing agreements with casinos who give them repeat business in the order of many times this amount in revenue? I personally don't think so.

'Zactly. Like everyone else I'd love it if they did make different patterns for the general public but I understand why they don't.
I am curious as to how big their casino purchasing base is. I've see the images from some of the off the path card rooms they service but I've never seen an ASM in live play, not that I'm some touring pro.
Also I do wonder about some of the pattern/color combos that I would consider "compromised", like the Palmas for instance. Sure it's only 30,000 chips but they are floating around out there.
Anyhow I doubt we'll see anything like spot options anytime soon. I do think though if someone came to them with a Pualson size order they'd have a hard time turning it down.

It'd be nice, but not likely to happen. My thought would be that they could set a pre-defined (stock) color with edge combo. In other words, kind of like Paulson, they could offer black horseheads with double spots in colors that they choose. Maybe other patterns for the other standard colors. That way they don't have to make 12 with dayglow peach and pink, then 32 with orange and yellow, etc. By all means, call and bug them. Doubt you'll get anywhere though. |

Jim B. is a member of this board and posts occassionally and always seems to offer some interesting insight into the business or some historical info when he does post. And I'm sure he reads all these posts that keep asking for more edgespot choices. A bunch of chip hounds calling and pestering them is not going to change their minds, it will more likely just piss them off (it would me). They've stated their policies and in one case, the solid horsehead GB, bent the rules for us when asked nicely by a single representative of the group. I'm sure Jim knows how much we all want more spot choices, and I'm sure we'll be the first to know if he decides to allow this, but PLEASE don't call and pester them.
Right now they will pre-oil your chips if you mention you are from chiptalk when you order, and they won't charge extra for it. That's pretty good. We chiptalk members have a good relationship with them currently and pestering them will sour that I'm afraid.
Now, if we present a good enough arguement for some edgespot variation, maybe, just maybe we'll get something. I think there's a good start in this thread. I'd like to suggest that perhaps we can come up with a laundry list of acceptable color combos with different spots.
For instance, one thing I've noticed on out of the ordinary ASMs (those with other than 312 spots) is that they don't seem to use dayglow colors for the spots. Can anyone else confirm or dispute this? I'm looking at the palmas chips and the only ones I can see that might be dayglow are the $100RD with the 4 thin orange spots or maybe the $25RD with the 3 yellow/orange spots. Can't say for certain though. But maybe if they give us a option of say 4x or 5x spots and limit the spots to only dayglow colors, perhaps that would be acceptable to them. JimB are you out there?? |

I voted NO. I think for a small order they will not deviate from their policy but I think if you put in a large enough quantity, they will make anything you want as long as it does not duplicate one of their casino customer's pattern. Now by a large order, I mean a casino size order, not just GB quantity.

After Christmas ASM will start to offer 2 color edge spots.
Here are some issues which still have to be worked out; 1) which molds? 2) what cost? 2 spot colors will cost more? 3) What spot combination? probably only 3D14 ( 3 double 1/4"), 2 1/4" spots loaded into a 1/2" hole. 4) What style chip? Probably only printed centers? 5) What quanities?
It is true that we have always had concern about people trying to alter our chips to cheat casinos. We now think we can work around this issue.
