i know a guy that does this, he runs weekly tourneys, $20 buy-ins:
Ranking Index will be calculated using the following formula: (place in that tourney)/(# of players in that tourney)x10-(winnings x .05)+20. The average of each of these indexes will represent your Ranking index. 10% will be kept from each tourney to go towards the championship pot (this is not a rake, the 10% is only held until the championship tournament).
The highest ranked player will start with $200 dollars in chips. The lowest ranked player will get $30. Every player in between will get an equal increase in chips all the ways up to the highest ranked player. The “season” will run for 15 tournaments.
You need to play in 9 of the tournaments to qualify for the championship series.
The championship tournament will be played as a $50 buy-in “freeze out” tournament.
- Players will receive a discount of $5 for every tournament they play over the minimum amount of tournaments required.
- Ex. If player X plays in 11 tournaments (which is 2 over the minimum) he will get a $10 discount (2 extra tournaments x $5) thus he will pay $40 ($50 - $10 discount) for the championship.
Players that do not qualify for the championship tournament will be able to buy-in to the tournament. However they will have to pay 10 dollars for every tournament needed to equal the 9 tournaments required to play, on the top of the $50 buy-in. They will receive the same amount of chips as the lowest ranked player.
- Ex. If player X plays in 7 tournaments, he will have to pay $20 (2 tournaments needed to equal 9, x $10) + the entry fee of $50 for the championship which = $70.
