I really had a good laugh at your first post.
Sometimes I feel the same way.
It seems the more I read the worse my game gets online.
It also has carried over into the small live tourney I play.
I should change my name to bubble boy since that seems to be where I keep going out.
Also I am the most unlucky person you will ever meet so when i did win it was all skill and bluff because the only one that make their hand after the flop is the other guy.
I never chase turn or river cause I never win, but everyone else does.
I play a lot os s&g and continuation bet are a killer post flop because of the lucky bastards.

i think you're putting to much "game" value on one/two books.
HOH/HOH2 are great. the books are reasonably priced (i got them at my library first, then paid $50 for 1&2). it does give reasonable & analytical approaches to solving poker "problems".
if you're a true novice - this book would be excellent - if the novice could comprehend the concepts of playing cards against other hearts and minds. i've played for a while and tore through both books in 3 days. well worth the time - i agreed with it more than i disagreed. still was a good read.
i didn't read Sidartha expecting it to make me budha = Dan Harrington is a brilliant poker player, but i did not read hoh/hoh2 and expect to win massive amounts of money in a 2000 person online tourny @ 20+2 online every sunday. nor do i hold much faith that he "Dan" actually wrote these books. 2+2=special casino days. time.
i think HOHs reinforces the importance of #0 experience against current opposition #1 position (table/tourny), #2 betting/raising/odds, #3 player analysis, #4 its a freaking crap shoot playing sit-n-go tournies online.... #99 when people fall asleep at the wheel - get em with their disproportionate pot/implied odds bet if you were playing their cards that you cant see !!
it does offer an "obvious" "solution" to put yourself in a position to snag pots aggressively and/or conservatively. i've paid hand over fist for this over the years = assimilation of information. "all you're base cards belong to us"
they're good books for the cost. i actually got HOH1/2 from the library first and then bought them online = +EV. someone should write a book on online micro limit fish, bonus whoring, how to maintain an effective hand history (software tools to id leaks), stepping up $$ level (.02/.04 to 3/6) and the difference in the competition
& where to do group buys ]).... <-- thats me drooling
i'd buy that book.
i feel like i am spelling it out on crayon/blue paraoh.

I have to say, it still amazes me after 6 months or however long I've been here, that I can make 2 posts that sound semi-serious (but really aren't at all) with only the intention of getting a few select people's panties in a bunch, and they still take the bait. It's always funny to me, though. Probably because I still have the mentality of a 15 year old.
First of all, I've never read HOH 1/2 completely. I skimmed through Vol 1 which I found to be mostly common knowledge except for a total beginner (not including the stuff on how much to bet in certain situations). I skimmed through the first two chapters of Vol 2 as well, and felt the same way. I know inflection points are supposed to be this groundbreaking theory, but it's also common knowledge except for coming up with a formula for figuring out when exactly you start playing loose or make all-in your only move.
Second, I don't keep track of where I finish in a tournament. If I finish in the top 30 of a 2000 person tournament, I'll make a note of it, but if I finish 249th or 700th, I don't really commit it to memory. Before getting the books, I would finish somwhere between the bubble and the final table (haven't made one yet). That's still where I finish. Unless I do something really stupid (not unlikely) or get a big hand cracked, I don't finish very far below the bubble.
Third, seriously, take your nose out of 2+2's ass. It's pretty sad when I know that making one negative comment about their books will get you all riled up. HOH 1/2 are good NL books, but Super/System is still the best. Although it doesn't teach you to make decisions in tournaments with your TI-86 graphing calculator so, nevermind, it sucks.

I just think HOHs are pretty good - super system is great. At least I would recommend them over the other 100-million crappy poker books out there or worse the horrible DVDs they peddle.
I'm not kissing 2+2 ass, i just think HOH is better than most of the books out there. Heck, if you want to use the calculator at the table - read slankys books (which i wouldnt recommend unless your a walking computer). Poker books by and large suck to read, might as spend your time reading a good one.
maybe i should take a look at "moneymaker" http://www.5stardeal.com/deals/10Exp...tCode=10-CP183 - im sure that will be insightful.

lol that post was soooo not aimed at you man.
And, actually, I read Moneymaker's book and it was pretty interesting. I know that the 2+2 people hate him since he doesn't use hardcore math to make decisions in tournaments, but after reading his story I felt pretty good about him winning that kind of money... after he worked so hard to get out of debt to begin with. Self-inflicted debt, but still.
I mean, the guy was playing in his first live tournament ever, and the 2+2'ers crucify him for getting lucky and not making the "expert play" every time it was his turn. Gimme a break.
