A lot of casinos run a spread limit stud game $1 to $5 or $2 to $10.
No ante at all. The bring-in is the low end, and low card must bring it in.
Each player after may call the bring-in or raise any amount up to the max of the spread. Like in a no-limit game a reraise must be at least the amount of the previous raise. i.e. in $1 to $5 the 3h brings it in for $1, the next player raises $2 to make it $3 to go, another player raises and must raise it at least $2, but can raise it $5 to make it $8 to play.
We play a lot of low stakes SHOE - usually while waiting for players to show up - and we never play the stud games with an ante, just a bring-in
