| Do you alter where your blinds end based on # of players? Does anyone look at where their blinds finish up as they relate (percentage wise) to the amount of chips in play? Basically, how high do you allow your big blind to go. I stop the blinds at different levels depending on the amount of players that are in a particular tourney game.
From my experience our games run best when the big blind is stopped when it reaches from 6% to 7.5% of total chips in play. I don’t always achieve the desired percentage with where I stop the blinds but I stay in the ballpark. So although I have one uniform blind schedule for my T5000 tourney, the blinds stop at different levels based on the number of chips in play. The goal is to allow some back and forth play when it gets down to 2 guys and not have the blinds completely decide the outcome. Here’s what I came up with:
4-7 players big blind stops at 2K (level 7)
8-10 players big blind stops at 3K (level 8 )
11-13 players big blind stops at 4K (level 9)
14-20 players big blind stops at 5K (level 10)
21-26 players big blind stops at 8K (level 11)
27-33 players big blind stops at 10K (level 12)
34-40 players big blind stops at 12K (level 13)
For example, 8 players would be $40,000 in chips in play and I would stop the blinds at $4,000, which is 7.5% of the total chips in play. Does anyone else do something similar, and if so, what percentages do you use.
Edit: inserted "big" in front of blind where appropriate. |
