What a Rush

Rode some great cards to 1st. Not as impressive as Dad's son - but still a nice kick in the roll.

Made my decision easy - O8 tournament for WSOOP. Figure it is my best chance for a decent cash,

Congrats. Nice going.

My son try the 200k tourn. again this evening. Pocket AA and all-in crippled him when opponent river a flush. He finish 21st couple of hands later. One more spot higher and it would have pay $400 more.

I've never even cracked the money in any tournament other than the ChipTalk.net tournament last week.

Good job.

Definitely not his first win. I seen him win an O8 tourn. for a few thousand dollars. W will have more and bigger wins as his bankroll grows. He is a very good player. That is from personal observation from being on the same table playing online and from reading his analysis of his posting.

Awesome. How about some pointers? I have won 10 person money tornaments before and 45 person play money but nothing like that. Good job once again!

lol - your are giving me a big head

It always depend upon who shows up - the paitent attentive player or the overaggressive wild player. I still give a lot away sometimes. From about 50 players down to the final table - the cards were like a dream come true. About once a rotation I received decent starting hands (Like A24K) - and they seemed to pay off every time. Even had a few blind specials.

To answer a couple of other questions - I have won one other O8 (and a 2nd). I have also final tabled a few NLHE events (low buyins - like $10 or $20) and won a few super satelites (where the entire final table gets an entry into a bigger tournament). Not enough to retire on - but a decent kicker to the day job.

I do not get to play many big tournaments - as the ones I enter have lower buyins - so big fields. I usually do not have the time. The Ohama8 ones usually have lower participation and do not take as long. I also think that it is my best game.

For NL- start with Harringtons books. I have never seen a better NL tournament reference. You do not really have to know all of the math right away - but his description of tight aggressive play should be everyones roadmap at the lower levels. If you like O8 - then Ray Zee and/or Michael Capalletti both have excellent books.

From there - practice. Pokerstars now has low buyin multiplayer SnGs - and party has $5 ones. Both are decent torunament practice without requiring a lot of time or cash.

A lot of it is bankroll management. If you only have $100 - you should not be playing $20 mtt. No matter how well you play - it is a longshot to cash in the lower limit ones. Just too many wild players willing to risk it all with A5 suited. If you have a smaller bankroll - play the .25/.50 limit games at pacific or pokerstars (other sites have this limit as well). If you play solid poker - you can beat this game. I used to use a "reward yourself" management technique. I would gring it at the lower limits - and enter some $10 SnG or MTT - after I raised the buyin at limit. That way - I was not really putting myself at much risk.

Slow and steady wins- It took me over a year to win my first big MTT.

Hopefully I will be able to play in the chiptalk game this Thursday - and you can see how lousy I really am.
